Smiddy Challenge - Why I Ride

In August this year, I was going to be cycling 1600 km from Brisbane to Townsville as part of the 2020 Bottlemart Smiddy Challenge. Unfortunately, COVID-19 decided 2020 was not the year for a Smiddy Challenge - but that won't stop me joining the Challenge next year instead.

Why am I taking on this challenge?

Firstly, it is my way of remembering and honoring my dear wife who was taken by cancer in 2018 before her 57th birthday. Day 7 of the ride this year was going to be the second anniversary of her passing. So next year I'll be remembering the third anniversary instead.

Secondly, it's because I’m committed to the long, hard road to fight cancer - a disease that takes too many people away from their families far too soon.

As part of my challenge I’m aiming to raise $5000 to support the work of Mater Research—Mater’s world-class research institute that’s investing in some game-changing work into the causes, treatment and prevention of cancer.

And this is where I need your help.

Together, we can help to give more families more time together; to make more memories.
