Notes from Jen
27 February
Yesterday I received some snazzy socks to wear on the Fun Run as a thank you for the money I've raised so far. Aww, nice!
I set a fundraising target of $1500 which was pretty ambitious given the year everyone's had (or are having)! Times are tough right now, so a BIG thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who's donated already. I've raised enough for over 6 hours of research which is AMAZING.
If you're considering a donation, thank you! Every dollar helps, I promise.
12 days until the Fun Run!
Yikes!

Today I realised that this will be our 10th Fun Run! I remember Ava was so little when we first started, but she didn't give up! It's turned into a lovely tradition and I'm grateful that she joins me every year and we can share this.
It also means that it was just over 10 years ago when my mum was first diagnosed. Thankfully she's still with us and still fighting. Keep fighting mum xx

Another year, another chance to give back and to help more women who are diagnosed with breast cancer.
If I'm being brutally honest, I don't know if I have it in me this year. There's a lot going on right now. My brain is busy and my body is tired. Really tired.
I know it's just life these days and the cancer meds make it harder to cope. The not sleeping part is the worst, followed by feeling lousy and irritable. (Sorry everyone!)
As much as I feel overwhelmed at times and that fundraising and running 5 km seems too much to deal with right now, I have to.
The women before me did it, and I benefitted from their efforts. They pushed on, even though they were tired. I'll push on too.
While I'm asking for donations and posting about this on socials and email, I'm really trying to raise awareness. Ladies, please do a quick self-check. Guys, remind the women you love to self-check.
A quick self-check in 2020 led me to find a lump. Thankfully the lump was benign and was removed with surgery.
However at my one-year check-up in 2021 (which I thought was going to be a complete waste of time and I was so busy I almost cancelled the appointment) they found more cancer. Really bad cancer. Thanks to the lump of 2020, this one was found early.
The initial self-check and benign tumour probably saved my life. Not to mention 4 more surgeries that year to cut out all the cancer.
So I'm going to remind myself how blessed I am and how much support I had during that time and still now. I'm going to push on and do this and try to raise some money to help other women and to raise awareness.
So let's donate some money to help them out and make their journey a little brighter.
