Will you support my fundraising?
Liz Smiling for Smiddy is taking on Challenge New Zealand in February 2027!
Why?
.....because I’m committed to making a real impact for cancer research at Mater by raising vital funds to support the work of Mater Research.
Why?....
...because In 2011, Rory Flood, the remarkable man in my life passed away from melanoma. He was 39.
At the time of this devastating diagnosis we were told that the treatment for melanoma hadn't changed in 25 years.
The Mater Foundation is helping to change that.
In 2015 I joined the Smiddy family and cycled from Brisbane to Townsville. In 2017 I rode back again and have since done various other Challenge events in South Australia, the Snowy Mountains and Victoria - invariably exhausted and on my limit, but somehow having a blast in remarkable like-minded company.
During that time too, with the help of friends and supporters we have added more than $55K to the fund-raising pot!
Importantly though, in that same time, through research and innovation, I have seen a novel treatment for melanoma go from an idea in a doctors mind to a publicly funded drug, and witnessed the lives of other people (with the same diagnosis as Rory) saved or prolonged!
Perspective is amazing and I know our efforts do make a difference.
So many people have come together and supported my efforts over the years in the most wonderful way....lets see what we can achieve this time! xx
