22nd Feb 2024! The day I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer.

If you do one thing today…check your breasts!!! Do it again tomorrow & get your partner to do it too! And if you find anything, even if you think it’s nothing…go to the doctor and get it checked!

I was the fittest and healthiest I had been in my whole life…or so I thought. In January 2024 we went to New Zealand & it was amazing!!! Just before we left, maybe about a month prior I found a small round lump in my right breast. It was really hard like a marble but only the size of a pea. I didn’t get it checked straight away, I just thought it would go away but it didn’t and while we were in NZ I realised it had actually gotten bigger so the moment we got home I booked a doctors appointment.  

Over the next 2 weeks I had an ultrasound and 4 biopsies and then came the day I got the call…22nd February 2024… the doctor needed to see me and could I go straight there. When I got there she said I’m so sorry Kylie…you have Breast Cancer. Stage 1, grade 2, invasive ductal carcinoma. I was 40 years old! I felt physically ill from shock & I cried so much for days but at the same time I was numb. It was like a really really bad dream. 

8 weeks later…2 surgeries later, 1 planned & 1 emergency surgery….then came some good news. They had clear margins and no lymph node involvement. From there I had 6 weeks to heal and then I had 20 rounds of Radiation. 

Fast forward to now…Every day I pray that it doesn’t come back but the fear & trauma is so real! I still have 6 monthly checks with 3 different teams, my surgeon, my radiation Dr & my oncology team. 

Throughout this whole journey I am so grateful for the medical support that I received, everyone was honestly amazing! I’m so grateful for my partner & my kids for always being my rock, my family & friends for listening to me on the days I was struggling & my amazing work family & everything they did for me while I was on leave. 

By taking part in this fun run again this year, it’s a way for me to feel like I’m giving back to help other women just like me that heartbreakingly end up on this same journey. I myself know how much my oncology psychologist alone, helped me! She was worth her weight in gold and I was so grateful for every single session I had with her. 
So please check your breasts, and if you have a spare couple of dollars to donate, that would be amazing please, every little bit helps raise vital funds. 🫶

And to everyone that has been there for me during the past 2 years…words can’t express how truly grateful I am. Love you longtime 🫶
