Why I'm Doing This...
I’m running in the Mater International Women’s Day Fun Run this year, and yes — I know — running. Voluntarily. For fun.
If you know me, you’ll understand just how serious this cause must be.
I’m doing this to help raise money for breast cancer research and support, and while my gorgeous best friend Mahoney is a huge part of my “why”, this run is about so much more than just one person.
Because let’s be honest — we all know someone affected by breast cancer.
This run is for my best friend, my "sister-from-another-mister" and soul mate Mahoney. She is walking this road with courage, grit, humour, and a strength that continues to humble me every single day.
It’s also for my mum’s best friend, Carole Corness — a woman who showed up every day for my mum while she was dying of melanoma… all while fighting her own breast cancer battle at the same time. If there was ever a definition of a warrior, it’s Carole.
It’s for my dear friend Kelly James, who lost her beautiful mum and then made the brave decision to undergo a double mastectomy herself — not because she was sick, but because she wanted to make sure she would be here for her own girls. That’s love in its fiercest form.
It’s for my school friends Cassie Smith and Sharon Steinberner — more incredible women who have walked through breast cancer and come out the other side, changed, stronger, and still standing.
And it’s for the countless women (and families) whose stories we don’t always hear — the appointments, the scans, the waiting, the fear, the hope, the recovery.
This run is about community. About showing up. About doing something, even if it’s just a few kilometres at a jog-that-feels-suspiciously-like-walking.
If you’re able to donate — anything at all — please know that it truly matters. Every dollar helps fund research, care, and support for women who need it now, and women who will need it in the future.
And if you can’t donate right now, that’s okay too — cheering, sharing, and sending love all count.
I’ll be running with sore legs, a full heart, and a whole lot of people in mind.
Thank you for supporting me, and more importantly, for supporting this cause. 💕
