1. Patients experiencing hardship get a helping hand

Returning to work from maternity leave should have been a happy milestone for Deborah, however, a breast cancer diagnosis soon turned her world upside down.

The mother of three found herself trying to juggle the needs of her family alongside the physical, mental and financial burden of months of chemotherapy and several surgeries.

Thanks to the generosity of Mater People like you, Deborah received a grant to help take care of some of the financial challenges while she awaited government assistance.

“OMG thank you so much - like I cannot tell you how amazing that is. I have tears streaming down my face. That is the most amazing news!” Deborah said that when she found out she would be receiving a grant.

Mater Mission Fund supports patients experiencing hardship in ways big and small when no other funding is available.

2. Funding for state-of-the-art equipment

Emily Kate’s dream of becoming a mum was almost lost when baby Lilly Kate arrived 14 weeks early, weighing less than a loaf of bread.

A brand-new, temperature-controlled ‘Giraffe bed’ become her daughter’s sanctuary—keeping her warm, still and perfectly ventilated throughout her entire stay at Mater Mothers’ Neonatal Critical Care Unit (NCCU).

“My baby hit rock bottom, but she fought through thanks to her Giraffe bed and the wonderful nurses around her constantly. Without those beds and that care, babies like mine wouldn’t survive,” said Emily Kate.

Baby Lilly Kate pulled through thanks to the extraordinary care of Mater, and big-hearted people like you.
By supporting Mater Foundation you help invest in life-changing care and equipment to make sure that all babies can grow up to be happy and healthy children.

3. Supporting life-saving medical research

Alisi was about to make her dream of becoming an Emirates flight attendant come true when her routine medical check took her on a different journey—a stage three ovarian cancer diagnosis.

Two weeks later the 24-year-old had a full hysterectomy, where her doctors discovered her cancer had spread to some other organs including her diaphragm and large bowel.

“I remember my third round of chemo being the hardest. It was where I thought ‘I can’t do this anymore’. I told my family this and they told me that I had to keep going,” Alisi said.

After a mighty battle, Alisi has a new mission—raising awareness around this often-lethal cancer and supporting others going through this journey.

Your support helps patients like Alisi during their treatment and to drive vital medical research to help future cancer patients.

4. Your colleagues get a helping hand when experiencing hardship

Mercy Fund supports your Mater colleagues through one-off grants to those experiencing unexpected hardship.

It is not provided as a means of coping with ordinary financial difficulties but is available as a support for when serious illness, death or other unexpected adversities significantly impact the lives of an employee and their immediate family.

Mercy Fund exists because of the ongoing generosity of Mater staff who are committed to supporting their fellow colleagues in their time of need.

Any donation, however small, is a meaningful contribution to the welfare of your colleagues.

Thank you for always making good things happen at Mater!
