About the event

What is Smiddy?

add remove

Smiddy is the Platinum Charity Partner of the Noosa Triathlon and has been a key feature of the event since 2010. In partnership with Noosa Triathlon, we offer a premium VIP experience to both beginner and seasoned athletes. In return, our triathletes commit to making their race about more than just the finish line and fundraising for life-saving cancer research at Mater.

What VIP entry types does Smiddy offer?

add remove

We have 350 Platinum Individual entry places available to Noosa Triathlon. Platinum entries include guaranteed early wave start, custom Smiddy tri-suit, exclusive VIP bike racking, VIP Trackside recovery zone and much more.

Can I race as an age-group athlete and join Smiddy?

add remove

Smiddy triathletes race in a dedicated category with a guaranteed early wave start and medals awarded to the top three men and women. By participating in the Smiddy wave, you are unable to race as an age group athlete and compete for places in the age group categories.

If you wish to be a part of Smiddy and fundraise for cancer research, you still can! You will just need to enter your Noosa Tri age group registration and contact us at [email protected] to help set up a fundraising page.

Can I join Smiddy at Noosa Tri as a relay team?

add remove

Yes, you can purchase a Relay Team spot directly from Noosa Triathlon and set up a free Smiddy fundraising page.  By fundraising a minimum of $2,000, your Relay Team will receive great Smiddy benefits and exclusive merchandise—just like our Individual Smiddy athletes. Due to race rules, we are unable to offer the early wave start for teams, but we can offer many other benefits and fundraising rewards.

Do I need to be a seasoned triathlete?

add remove

Not at all! Smiddy events welcome participants aged 20 to 65 with a wide range of abilities and experience. Some are new to triathlon, while others have been competing for decades. What unites them is their big hearts, positive attitudes, and shared commitment to stepping out of their comfort zones to support cancer research.

Can I fundraise with a team, as an individual Smiddy athlete?

add remove

Absolutely! We actually encourage our Smiddy triathletes to rally their mates and join Smiddy as a fundraising team—sharing the load makes fundraising easier and more fun! Just create a team during registration and invite your friends to join.

Fundraising

What is the minimum fundraising amount?

add remove

Each Smiddy athlete commits to raising $1,000 in support of cancer research at Mater by Noosa Tri race day. But we always encourage our athletes to aim high and exceed their fundraising goals!

The more you raise, the more you unlock—like a pair of ASICS Noosa Tri shoes, exclusive discounts on your 2027 Noosa Tri entry, and other exciting rewards to elevate your race experience.

Every dollar you raise helps drive research that brings us closer to a future beyond cancer!

How do I collect donations?

add remove

After registering you will instantly receive your own fundraising website profile which you can personalise with your own stories, pictures and updates.

You can collect all of your donations via this page, and your donors/supporters can conveniently use their debit/credit cards to make a donation.

Sharing the link to this page via social media, emails and in person will take donors straight to your own fundraising campaign.

Fundraising data proves that making a self-donation to your page encourages your friends and family to follow suit – so remember to make your first self-donation a generous one!

Are donations Tax deductible?

add remove

All donations over $2 are tax deductible and a tax receipt will instantly be sent to your donors after each donation.

How much support will I receive with fundraising?

add remove

Once registered you will receive an email welcoming you to the Smiddy community. This email will include links to our handy fundraising resources, hints and  tips to make raising your $1,000 minimum goal a breeze.

We also have a dedicated team of fundraising coaches, who can answer any questions you may have related to fundraising.

Historically, the average amount raised per person is over $1,500, which goes to show that it really is possible!

Do I need a connection to cancer?

add remove

No, you don't. Everyone has their own story and reason for wanting to get involved. The fact you are interested in something bigger than yourself shows us that you're already a Smiddy person. Our riders and triathletes are motivated by a variety of reasons. Simply looking to challenge yourself? Go for your life! That's why many Smiddies have signed up and we'll cheer you on as you do it! We can guarantee that your Smiddy journey will offer more than you expect—and you'll be thankful it does.

Where do my donations go?

Funds raised through Smiddy go directly to cancer research projects at Mater, supporting vital work in areas like melanoma.
