Meet Maria
It was October 2022—during Breast Cancer Awareness Month—when Maria was scheduled for her regular breast cancer screen. A visible lump was the reason she fast tracked her appointment, which resulted in a diagnosis of Stage 2 breast cancer in her left breast, and Stage 3 in her right breast. Maria underwent surgery at Mater Private Hospital Townsville less than a month after her diagnosis.
With two daughters and a granddaughter, Maria is passionate about the importance of early detection and getting regular checks—it contributed to saving her life.
