Breast Care Nurse

Wrapped in Care: How Your Donations Support Women Through Breast Cancer

Thanks to the generous community that fundraised as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month last year, Mater Private Hospital Springfield continues to have access to a dedicated Breast Care Nurse, Shiralee Bremner—a role which is fully funded by generous supporters of the Mater Chicks in Pink 'Breasties Brunch’— allowing women to receive support while staying close to home.

Shiralee supports patients from their first visit with a surgeon or oncologist, right through to their treatment and beyond.

“Being able to offer the care coordination and allowing patients to access the knowledge base and support systems available is really important to me for our community. They’re getting all their services in one place, and as their breast care nurse, I’m linking all of that together throughout their whole journey.”

“The thing I hope is that my patients can meet me at the beginning of their journey and feel less overwhelmed—and that by the end of their journey they can feel like they’ve been wrapped up and looked after. It’s really that wrap-around care so that they don’t feel lost and can step through their world with the support of their community and networks.”

“It’s an honour for me to be funded by community generosity.

This role is a privilege to provide care and compassion to women with breast cancer going through some of the darkest days of their life.”
