As a young woman, Mum boarded at the Mater Hospital in Brisbane, where she trained as a nurse under the Sisters of Mercy. It was the beginning of a life defined by caring for others.
Nursing suited Mum because nurturing people was simply part of who she was. As a nurse, a wife, a mother and later a grandmother and great-grandmother, she gave so much of herself to the people around her. She was loving, compassionate and endlessly caring, always wanting to make sure those she loved were safe, comfortable and looked after.
The qualities at the heart of nursing never left her. They became the qualities with which she lived her whole life and cared for her family.
In lieu of flowers, our family would be deeply grateful for donations to the Mater Foundation in Brisbane, honouring the place where Mum’s nursing journey began and the spirit of care and compassion that remained with her throughout her life.
It feels especially fitting that, in Mum’s memory, that care can now be passed on to someone else.
