GC Fundraiser
Hey All,
I’m running the Gold Coast Marathon to raise awareness and funds for Bowel Cancer.
As many of you would know, my husband Jack was diagnosed with Stage 3 Bowel Cancer in August 2023.
It came as a huge shock to our family, as a healthy Dad of 4 young kids and at only 38 years old, he seemed too young.
Fast forward nearly a year, after undergoing surgery and 6 months of chemotherapy, Jack’s prognosis looks good. Along the journey we were shocked to learn of the alarming increase in young people being diagnosed with this disease, with doctors unsure as to what is causing this.
June is Bowel Cancer awareness month,
so take this as a reminder to please never ignore any symptoms, at any age.
Some symptoms to look out for include;
- changes in bowel habits
- blood in stool
- Unexplained weight loss
- Extreme tiredness/fatigue
Secondly this fundraising effort will support Jack’s oncologist, Dr Vikram Jain (Mater Health and ICON Cancer Centre) to build and accelerate a new biobank for young colorectal cancer patients.
We are supporting his efforts to collect tissue samples from willing patients to better understand this disease. Every donation will go towards this new initiative and ultimately save the lives of young people diagnosed with colorectal cancer, a cause Jack and I are very passionate about.
