Our Mater Little Miracle Yianni is turning one this month! In lieu of gifts we are asking our family and friends to donate to help us buy a recliner chair for the Neonatal Critical Care Unit.
When he was born, Yianni spent 7 weeks under the incredible teams in NICU and Special Care at the Mater. Many wouldn’t know this, but in each room of 8 babies there are only 2 or 3 recliner chairs for mothers to use.
It might not seem like much, but when you are postpartum and spending 8+ hours a day by your baby’s bedside, having a comfy chair to sit in while you try and snuggle with all of the cords, or while you pump and tube feed or while you learn to breastfeed really makes all of the difference.
We are hoping to raise as much as we can, in celebration of Yianni, knowing it will make a difference to the many families who call the NCCU home.

Having spent time with my son in NCCU just 10 months ago, I know how much comfort something as small as a comfortable chair can make to parents going through some of the most challenging moments.
