Breast Cancer

This is a cause very close to my heart, having battled Breast Cancer in 2023 and having lost my Sister 7 years ago to the same horrible disease

My Breast Cancer Journey ~ 2023

I was diagnosis in May 2023 - with a very rare and aggressive type of Breast Cancer “Triple Negative Fibromatosis-like carcinoma”with research noting only 69 known cases in English literature in the past 20 years.

Firstly Double Mastectomy and then 16 rounds of chemotherapy, totalling 142 days, but the journey that is Breast Cancer is ongoing. I still have a ways to go, as the chemo and surgery can leave you with long term health issues and the genuine fear of potential recurrence, and discover your new kind of ‘normal’.

It has been a long journey and at times lonely, heartbreaking, emotional, compounded by hair loss/physical disassociation and a sense of loss/grief for who you were and what parts of you are gone, debilitating fatigue, mouth ulcers, bone aches, nausea, relentless chemo sweats, nails slowly dying, insomnia and Brain Fog. The support, encouragement, strength and love from my beautiful family, and friends, and the staff at Cancer Care TPCH has gifted me the confidence to power through and do all I can to say goodbye to Breast Cancer forever.

This walk I walk for myself, my sister who lost her battle with Breast Cancer in 2017 and the thousands of people directly and indirectly impacted by this horrible disease.
