I’m taking part in the Brisbane to Gold Coast Cycle for Cancer challenge.

Dear friends, family, and compassionate supporters,

As I prepare myself for an incredible journey, I am reminded of the profound impact cancer has had on the people I hold dear. On this momentous occasion, I am taking part in a 100km cycle ride from Brisbane to the Gold Coast in support of cancer research, a cause that holds a deeply personal significance in my life. Cancer has left an indelible mark, claiming the lives of my father and sister-in-law, leaving a void that can never be filled. Witnessing their courageous battles with this relentless disease has left me determined to make a difference.

My father, whom I lost when I was just a young child, was a pillar of strength and love in my life. His memory continues to inspire me to take action against this formidable adversary that has affected countless lives. Not too long ago, my family faced another heartbreaking loss when we said goodbye to my sister-in-law, who fought valiantly but ultimately succumbed to the cruel grasp of cancer. These painful experiences have etched into my soul the urgency to support vital research that can bring us one step closer to a cancer-free future.

On a more hopeful note, my wife's journey has shown me the tremendous impact that organizations supporting cancer research can make. She has survived not one but two cancer diagnoses, thanks to the dedication and progress achieved by the very foundation that I am riding for. Witnessing her resilience and the dedication of the medical teams and researchers has only strengthened my commitment to contribute my part in this ongoing battle.

As if fate was reminding me of the urgency of this cause, just this week, I learned that an old colleague and dear friend lost his battle with cancer. His departure serves as a poignant reminder that time is of the essence in the fight against this indiscriminate foe.

I humbly appeal to your generous hearts to join me in making a difference. Your support will not only honor the memories of my loved ones but also contribute to advancements in cancer research that will impact the lives of countless others. Together, let us pedal towards a future where cancer is no longer a threat, where families are spared from the pain of loss, and where hope prevails.
